SEBASTIAN TEXTILES
Sustainability
50 years of textile tradition
After more than 50 years in the textile industry, generation after generation, we still believe in a high-quality textile industry, creative and innovative. We’re certain that sustainable production, our collaboration with the client, traceability, transparency and social responsibility are the future of textiles.
Conscious that we are at the start of the production chain of the garments that you wear, our actions leave a mark on our surroundings and the people. Therefore, we design and manufacture our products following the sustainability criteria.
Sustainability is present in all the fabrics that take part of Sebastian Textiles. From the first moment of inspiration, we consider the life cycle of our fabrics, and we design bearing that in mind. It’s also our responsibility to choose the manufacturing process that is more respectful to the environment and to use fibres of sustainable origins and biodegradable properties.
The how and when it’s produced matters to us: we’re local producers. Working with social and environmental responsibility is our goal, that’s why we introduced last generation technology, which allows us to minimise our environmental footprint. We put in all our senses towards process to transform all designs into creative and quality fabrics that fulfil our client’s needs.

In Sebastian Textiles we’re conscious that all the decisions we take, influence our planet. Therefore, we commit to follow the Objectives of Sustainable Development and the Principles of the World Pact of the United Nations.
Sustainable Development
The 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all the State Members of the United Nations in 2015, provides a shared plan for peace and prosperity of people and the planet, now and for the future.
We are committing to following these principles, applying our experience, technical knowledge and creativity to guarantee a quality process, of maximum benefit for the consumer and the environment.
Productive Efficiency
Product manufacturing with criteria of top efficiency and sustainability. Our politic in sustainable development is centred in:
Energy
Investment in machines and installations that allow a reduction in gas and electrical consumption. Our objective is that in 2025 all our mills consume solar energy, auto generated and renewable. We initiated this challenge in 2020, with the implementation of this energy in our headquarters.
Resources
Our objective is to carry on reducing water consumption and the use of chemical products. At the same time, investigating new processes which allow a decrease of the treatment of residual water.
Chemicals and auxiliaries
Our system of automatic manipulation guarantees the optimal use of chemical products and auxiliaries. This process guarantees a saving of over 40% during the process and avoids chemical exposure to workers and its accidental spillage in the environment
Water
We know that water is a limited resource. Therefore, we manage its use by making daily improvements of the processes and the implementation of last generation technologies to reduce its consumption.
Commitment
We are committed to ethical business practices, welcoming the basic code of the Ethical Trading Initiative and The United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs). Likewise, we have an audit of social responsibility under the SMETA standards from SEDEX.
Policies
We’ve established the following internal policies: Quality and prevention policy, social policy, Environmental Policy and Providers and Purchases Policy
Our Materials
We manufacture fabrics using fibres of natural origin, renewable and biodegradable (organic cotton, linen, ethical wool, Lyocell TENCEL™, ECOVERO™ viscose, etc.) Furthermore, we use recycled fibres (polyester and polyamide).
Organic cotton, linen and all the recycled materials are certified.
In Sebastian Textiles, we have been concerned about working with recycled materials that biodegrade in a relatively short time span, since the recycling and end of life of a product is our principal objective, guaranteeing the re-start of the cycle and the wellbeing of people and the environment.
Creativity, care and love for what we do, make possible a sustainable textile production today. To guarantee that our processes are sustainable, our vision centres in innovation and development, productive improvement and resource optimisation.
Always committed with the use of fibres from natural origin, meaning, renewable and with a biodegradable end life, constantly working to find good practices from the origin, its initial design stage and development.
For example, in Sebastian Textiles, 95% of fibre consumption are from natural, biodegradable fibres and, the remaining 5% comes from recycled synthetic fibres (polyester and polyamide. Wool represents 30% of our fibre consumption, linen and cotton represent more than 35% and the 84% of our cellulose fibres come from environmentally friendly options, such as TENCEL™ (20% of total volume of fibres) and ECOVERO™.
-Lenzing™ Ecovero™ is a much cleaner and the ecologic version of viscose there is, it’s manufactured following a series of strict brand guidelines, set by the European Union.
-TENCEL™: also known as Lyocell, branded as TENCEL™ from Lenzing™, is the most sustainable viscose there is, produced in environmentally responsible methods. It’s made from wood pulp from sustainable forests.
Certifications
Why are certifications important?
The fashion and textile sector are considered to be the most contaminant industries in the world. Fortunately, sustainability is becoming one of the fundamental pillars of companies
However, we still have a long way to go, from our raw materials, to having a circular product system, through the production processes, without forgetting the consuming habits of our society.
Consumers in general and new generations, are aware of all the great environmental and social challenges ahead of us.
As an integral part of the sector’s value chain, it’s our duty to answer to this necessity.
In Sebastian Textiles, we know that the decisions we make have consequences on the future of our planet. For this reason, we’re committed to undertake actions, considering how we can contribute to improving and conserving out the environment and our earth’s ecosystem in particular.
Like many other companies in the industry, we’re decided to work and orient our objectives to leave a better world and less compromised for future generations. In the same manner that we believe of importance to demonstrate these wishes with facts.
One of the ways in which we can do this is with the help of different certification systems that exist for the textile sector.

Bluesign® is a system which provides a safe and sustainable environment for workers and consumers. It traces the path of each fabric throughout the manufacturing process, making improvements at all stages. At the same time, it guarantees an improved environmental impact of fabrics. Therefore, Bluesign® acts as an outside verifier to guarantee trust, transparency as well as encouraging the textile industry to increase their efforts step by step towards more sustainable processes.
Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 is the most extended and recognised certification, related to the security of textile products to consumers.
It guarantees that each component of the manufactured fabric has been tested to guarantee the absence of dangerous chemical substances, harmful to human beings and the environment.
The European flax sector is grouped and represented by CELC (The European Confederation of Flax and Hemp), who endorse the product, aids farmers and industrial fibre processors and promotes the investigation of new applications for these fibres. The confederation is also owner and who gives the EUROPEAN FLAX® certification, who guarantees the origin of the European linen fibre, as well as its traceability and good industrial practices throughout the supply chain.
We have the above certifications and continue to work towards future certificates that continue to support our work.
